A Spanish research Institute has designed and patented a biocatalyst electrode that can be used as anode for hydrogen fuel cell, overcoming the limitations that existed with this technology. The electrode is constituted by hidrogenase enzyme on carbon support. But in this case hydrogenases molecules are covalently bonded in a preferential orientation as to facilitate direct electrical connection of the enzyme to the carbon surface.
