A German university has disclosed a gene encoding of an enzyme permitting the industrial production of high-quality chitosan. Chitosan has a broad spectrum of industrial applications, e.g. in contact lenses, immobilisation membranes in biotechnological processes or feed additives. The University offers the production process for the enzyme as well as a production process for chitosan for licensing and is interested in establishing partnerships for further development and commercialisation.
